About STM
Skills Training Mackay (STM) is a community-based, not-for-profit organisation operating from premises located on the corner of River and Tennyson Streets, Mackay.
The organisation has been operating for over 12 years, and in 1996 changed its name to Skills Training Mackay. The Mackay City Council, on a time-based lease, provides these premises on a peppercorn rent.
The organisation has a very stable board of directors who contribute their time and expertise at no cost to STM and guide the organisation.
The staff is also very stable with the senior co-coordinator having over 15 years experience with the company.
The staff responsible for the Home Assist section has been with the program since its inception.
The manager has previous experience in employment and training, and has held senior management positions with other successful companies.
STM is predominantly in the training business and offers a range of fee for service courses to the wider community.
Courses are mainly in computer training, literacy and numeracy, forklift, dogging, crane, rigging, scaffolding and general construction.
STM has also developed links with other training providers so that a range of services can be offered to our customers.
The company has been successful in delivering a number of programs for the government, predominately in the areas that assist the unemployed such as 'Work for the Dole' Program, 'Community Jobs Program' and Community Employment Assistance Program'.
