Course Outline
This unit of competency covers the functions required to competently perform dogging operations to meet minimum training and assessment standards for the purposes of certification. This unit has been developed in accordance with the licensing and assessment requirements of 30497 QLD Course in Operating Cranes, Rigging & Scaffolding Equipment.
Course Subjects
- Legislated requirements
- Site hazards – precautions and measures to be taken for the safe movement of loads by a crane
- Cranes and crane signals
- Lifting gear – use, maintenance and inspection of terminals, fittings and accessories such as wedge type sockets, collared eyebolts, chain coupling links, hooks, bulldog grips, rope thimbles, swaged fittings and metal sockets
- Slinging techniques - Moving and placing loads
- Knots and splices – fibre rope
- Calculating the weight of loads
- Calculating sling sizes
Assessment
Assessment will involve a practical demonstration of skills and a short theory assessment
